🚴‍♂️ Types of Cycling You Can Do

 

1. Road Cycling

  • Ideal along the coast and inland roads.

  • Generally good tarmac and light traffic outside peak season.

2. Gravel & Touring

  • Abundant gravel roads and fire roads, especially in the Kozjak and Mosor foothills.

  • Great for bikepacking or adventure rides.

3. Mountain Biking (MTB)

  • Singletrack trails on Kozjak and Mosor are technical and steep.

  • Ideal for experienced riders.

 

🗺️ Cycling Around Kaštel Stari

 

Kaštela Coastal Ride

  • Route: Kaštel Ĺ tafilić → Kaštel Sućurac → and back (or all the way to Split).

  • Distance: ~20–30 km return

  • Type: Flat, easy

  • Highlights: Ride along the sea, passing all 7 Kaštela towns, seafront cafes, local life.

  • Great for: Road bikes, families, easy recovery rides.

 

Kozjak Hill Ride

  • Route: Kaštel Stari → Putalj (mountain hut) or to the top of Kozjak ridge.

  • Climb: Moderate to steep, paved and gravel combo.

  • Great for: Gravel or MTB

  • Views: Stunning views over Kaštela Bay and the Adriatic.

  • Trail tip: You can climb to Sveti Luka or Sveti Juraj and return via a loop.

 

Cycling Around Split

 

Split – Marjan Hill Loop

  • Route: City center → Marjan Park → loop around the hill.

  • Distance: ~10 km loop

  • Type: Paved and gravel paths, car-free zones

  • Great for: All bike types, even casual city bikes

  • Highlights: Forested park, views of the sea and islands, old churches, cliffs.

 

Mosor MTB Trails

  • Access: From Ĺ˝rnovnica or Sitno Gornje

  • Type: Steep, rocky singletracks and gravel

  • Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced

  • Popular routes: Downhill trails from Vrhunac Mosora, and loops below Planinarski dom Umberto Girometta

 

Longer Loops / Day Rides

 

Kaštel Stari – Trogir – Čiovo Island

  • Route: Coastal ride west to Trogir → cross the bridge to ÄŚiovo → optional loops on the island.

  • Distance: ~50–60 km

  • Type: Road or gravel

  • Highlights: Historic town of Trogir, island views, seaside cafes.

 

Kaštel Stari – Klis Fortress Loop

  • Route: Climb inland to Klis (via Solin or Ĺ˝rnovnica), descend back to coast.

  • Distance: ~40–60 km

  • Climb: ~400–600 m elevation gain

  • Great for: Road bikes

  • Bonus: Visit the fortress used in Game of Thrones filming!
